Why my game is mythologically accurate?
1. The background
Greek gods are not friends.
Long time ago, there was a big war between two of them : Athena and Poseidon. Here is Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
Here is Poseido, god of the seas, Why are they disputing?
They are fighting for domination over Athens. Athena wins because she gave olive tree to Athens. Here you see some olives.
They argue about Odysseus. Poseidon doesn't like the Trojans, but he doesn't really like the Greeks either. He was rather indifferent to Odysseus, until Odysseus attacked one of his protected: Polyphemus. Odysseus deceives and blinds Polyphemus, which will bring him many storms. Here you can see the head of Polyphemus the Cyclops.
Poseido was in love with Medusa. Perseus killed Medusa and bring her head to Athena. Here you can see Athenas shield, with the head of Medusa.
The most unpredictable episode is with Laocoon. Laocoon was a priest of Poseidon. He didn't want the Trojans to accept the Wood Horse. But Poseidon sent him and his sons serpents and killed him! |
2. The gameplay
Aristophanes, Birds, v. 516
| Pisthetaerus But the strongest proof of all is that Zeus, who now reigns, is represented as standing with an eagle on his head as a symbol of his royalty; his daughter has an owl, and Phoebus, as his servant, has a hawk. |
Antique coin | Owl mesh | |
Why are the owls so important ? Owls are Athena's favorite animals. Athena is order. Poseido is disorder. Athena owns the owls. Poseido owns the sea. All the owls ran away. Your boat is stranded. You have to find them all.
The greatest danger in the game comes from the sea. You risk falling into the sea very often. So you will die.
Now, who is the god of the sea? |

Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca
